This gemstone comes from the rugged mountains of East Java.The rough Letter Agate nodules was first recognised by craftsmen in a mountain village in East Java and the Letter agate were first collected to cut religious scripts from these stones.
Most notable was the ability of one man who seems to be the "Godfather" of the Letter Agates. Working in a small cabin with with dirt floor lit by Gas lantern using a hand crank grinder the "Letter Man" plies his unique craft.
This set of Alphabet cabochons has been skillfully crafted with the excess agate ground away to reveal the natural letters within.
