Amber-gold veining forks upward in narrow branching lines through the pale grey-blue translucent body of this cabochon, before the stone softens into a smooth cream-tan opaque base. This Letter Agate cabochon carries a natural Allah symbol and was cut from rough sourced in the mountains of East Java, the same region where local craftsmen first recognised these agate nodules and began gathering them to cut religious script.
One craftsman in the district has earned the name "Godfather" of the Letter Agates. He carries out his craft in a small, dirt-floored cabin lit by gas lantern, shaping each stone by hand on a crank-turned grinder. To form this piece, the surrounding agate was carefully ground back until the natural Allah symbol emerged from within. Made entirely from natural material with no treatments applied, this cabochon is a genuinely rare find that brings a note of spiritual meaning to any jewellery or craft project.
We met this same craftsman, known locally as Mr "Letterman", on a recent trip to Indonesia and watched him work firsthand. He is the one ageing, skilled artisan behind every one of our Alphabet, Number and religious figure cabochons, each guaranteed 100% natural and authentic.
Every alphabet and number set is signed by him for authentication, and the skill of picking out each image, whether a cross, a letter or a number, lies entirely in his eye. This is a chance to own a genuinely rare piece of one-off lapidary work.
For jewellery makers and collectors of rare, one-of-a-kind pieces alike, this Allah symbol cabochon is well worth adding to a collection. It brings natural beauty and religious meaning to any creation, and our other listings include full sets of Alphabets, Numbers and other religious symbols cut from the same remarkable stone.
