A near-black, smoky mass fills the centre of this cabochon against a milky white-grey body, fading to a small golden-brown patch near the left edge. This Letter Agate cabochon, shaped to reveal a natural Allah symbol, was cut from rough agate nodules sourced in an East Java mountain village, the same district where local artisans first spotted the material's potential for carrying religious script.
The craftsman behind this piece has earned a reputation as the "Godfather" of the Letter Agates. He works from a small, dirt-floored cabin lit only by gas lantern, shaping each stone by hand on a crank-turned grinder. To form this cabochon, the surrounding agate was carefully ground back until the natural Allah symbol emerged from within. Left untreated and entirely natural, this cabochon is genuinely rare, lending a note of spirituality to any piece of jewellery or craft project.
We met this craftsman, known to us as Mr "Letterman", during a trip to Indonesia, spending a day watching him work. It is this same ageing, skilled craftsman who produces every one of our Alphabet, Number and religious figure cabochons, each 100% natural and authentic, guaranteed.
Every alphabet and number set carries his signature as proof of authenticity. Reading the image, whether a cross, a letter or a number, out of the stone is entirely down to this craftsman's eye. This is a rare chance to own a genuinely one-of-a-kind piece of lapidary work.
For jewellery makers and collectors of rare, one-of-a-kind pieces alike, this Allah-symbol cabochon is well worth adding to a collection. It brings natural beauty and religious meaning to your next project. Full Alphabet and Number sets, along with other religious symbols cut from this same stone, can be found among our other listings.
