This stone was cut from agate sourced in the rugged mountains of East Java, where craftsmen in a mountain village first identified the rough nodules and began gathering them to carve religious script.
 
Most notable among these craftsmen is the man regarded as the "Godfather" of the Letter Agates. He carries out his distinctive work in a small, dirt-floored cabin lit by gas lantern, shaping each stone with a hand-crank grinder. For this piece, the surrounding agate was carefully ground back to bring out the natural Allah symbol held within.
