A dark chocolate-brown marking curls across the left-centre of this cabochon, its edge softening to golden-amber before fading into the pale blue-grey body of the stone. This Letter Agate cabochon, carved with a natural Allah symbol, is a striking, one-of-a-kind piece cut from rough gathered in the mountains of East Java. Local craftsmen first recognised these agate nodules in a mountain village there, and the stone was originally collected so that religious script could be cut from it.
One craftsman in particular has become known as the "Godfather" of the Letter Agates for his skill with this material. He works in a small cabin with a dirt floor, lit by gas lantern, shaping each piece by hand on a crank-driven grinder. Excess agate has been carefully ground away from this cabochon to bring out the natural Allah symbol held within. Entirely natural and untreated, this cabochon is a rare find, bringing a spiritual element to any piece of jewellery or craft project.
During a recent visit to Indonesia, we spent a day watching Mr "Letterman" at work and saw first-hand the skill behind his craft. This same ageing craftsman is responsible for every one of our Alphabet, Number and religious symbol cabochons, each 100% natural and guaranteed authentic. Our alphabet and number sets are signed by him for authentication. Recognising a cross, letter or number within the stone takes a trained eye, and this is a rare chance to own a genuinely one-of-a-kind piece of lapidary craft.
Whether you make jewellery or collect one-of-a-kind items, this Allah symbol cabochon is well worth adding to your collection, bringing natural beauty and religious meaning to your next project. See our other listings for complete Alphabet, Number and symbol sets cut from this same stone.
